Dr. Bowers earned his M..D. degree at the Copernicus Academy of Medicine in Cracow, Poland. He completed his internship and his fellowship in Bone Marrow Transplant, Hematology, and Oncology at the St. Louis University School of Medicine. Dr. Bowers is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology.
A native of Victoria, Texas has practiced pathology in the Spartanburg area since 1998. She received her bachelor of science degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Dr. Lapham underwent training in pathology at The University of Dundee Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, Scotland and the University of Texas in Houston. In addition she completed a year of surgical pathology specialist training in tumor pathology at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Lapham is a Member of the Royal College of Pathology and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
Dr. Lapham has an interest in genitourinary pathology and has published articles in this field. She also is actively involved in cytopathology and is Director of the Cytopathology Laboratory at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She is active in the Gibbs Cancer Center and is seen presenting at many of the local tumor boards.
She enjoys spending time with her children in their numerous music and art events.
R. Tucker Burks, M.D.
Pathology
Dr. Burks grew up in Anderson, South Carolina. He received a bachelor's degree in premedicine at Davidson College. After receiving his M.D. degree at the Medical University of South Carolina, he undertook residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at The George Washington University Medical Center. This was followed by a one-year fellowship in molecular diagnostics, also at The George Washington University Medical Center. For the following two years, he underwent fellowship training in gynecologic pathology at The John Hopkins University Medical Center.
For six years, he served on the pathology faculty at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He has authored numerous papers and a chapter on topics related to the genitourinary and gynecological tracts. He is a member of the International Society of Gynecological Pathologists and the International Society of Urological Pathology. Dr. Burks joined Spartanburg Pathology in December 2002.
Dr. Burks is married to Dawn W. Burks, M.D., a radiologist and specialist in breast imaging for Greenville Radiology, P. A. They have a son who shares his father's interests in running, hiking, tennis, and winter sports.
William W. Mims, M.D. Pathology
Dr. Mims has practiced in Spartanburg since 1999. He is a native of Charleston South Carolina, and grew up in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He received his B.S. degree at The Citadel and attended medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. After completing a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology in the Department of Pathology at the Medical University of South Carolina, he did a fellowship in surgical pathology at Johns-Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, M.D.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He has interests in gastrointestinal and genitourinary pathology, and general surgical pathology. He is the Medical Director of the Microbiology Laboratory at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Mims is married and has three boys and is a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. He enjoys college football, vegetable gardening, and fishing.
